DMV Knowledge Test

Ugh.. So I am studying to take the DMV Knowledge Test.. Twenty years old and I've been putting it off for.. what, four years now? Pathetic of course, but I never needed to drive until now. Public transportation is a very useful thing :).

I'm disappointed that there aren't any decent practice tests or resources out there. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. Either way, I have a hard copy of the manual in my hand and am dreading taking notes. Soon I will have to shop for auto insurance. Shop for auto insurance.. What a dismal activity :|. Perhaps soon I will have to shop for life insurance. God and one day shop for homeowners insurance.

Why is it mandatory in some states to have auto insurance? What are everyone's thoughts on driving in general? If permitted would you stick with public transportation, or would you rather opt to go the expensive albeit more rewarding (considering possibilities) route of purchasing a vehicle, insurance, etc. I'm interested in your thoughts :).

  1. It's always nice to have your own vehicle, but depending on where you live you might not really need one. Where I live you absolutely have to have your own vehicle or you couldn't get anywhere.

  2. Public transport all the way. It would be a different story outside of the city, of course.

  3. tbh, the dmv tests are really easy. its like what they say, driving is a privilege not a right, so you gotta follow some rules

  4. The only reason I got my license was because I was forced to. If I didn't have to I wouldn't.

  5. Don't sweat the DMV test, it's pretty much just common sense. I promise. As for driving, I didn't get my license until I was 19 going on 20. I really had no need for it until I graduated and started going to college. Then I got a job.

As for needing car insurance, it is mandatory because if you were to crash into someone and it was YOUR fault, could you afford to fix that person's car? It's basically making sure that you can pay for any damages you do to someone in your car. Which in all honesty is good. I mean, what if someone crashed into your car and damaged it to a point where you couldn't drive it? Wouldn't you want your $$ to fix it?

  6. I have esurance, and it's cheap and fast. I have never been in an accident, so I don't know how well their claims are, but it was the cheapest option out there.

  7. I really want to drive myself to school instead of taking the bus, I can't count how many times I've been late because of it.
But I can't really complain, because I haven't taken the initiative to actually go and get it

  10. Thank you guys for the support with the DMV! I should be taking the test tomorrow.. I'm sure I'll do fine. From what I gather it's mainly common sense and a few trick questions.

Auto insurance is expensive though. Don't know how anyone can afford to drive.. Car, Insurance, maintenance, fuel.. :O Gonna have to figure it out somehow I guess.

    Thank you guys for reading!

  11. I'm twenty three, and still lack a license. Not exactly because I wasn't trying, but nobody with a car in my life would let me drive it, even for the purpose of the driving test.

But, public transportation is a godsend, it can take you almost anywhere in this city, granted it takes almost two hours to get some places.

  13. Well I don't really like driving because I can't do other stuff while commuting to university so I prefer the public transport. However, sometimes it might be hard, depending on your location, to get where you need to efficiently. In that case the car is a must.

  16. I cant even be bothered with driving tests right now, I don't know what American ones are like but they're a real pain over here in the UK

  17. that test is easy in most states, just memorize the practice test in the back of the handbook and you'll be fine.

  20. Same as David, NYC, so driving is pretty much pointless most of the time.
