A mattress on the floor...

How many of you guys are lazy? Well, most westerners are at least somewhat lazy, but I mean really lazy? I sleep on a mattress on the ground, but I've had a bed-frame in a box sitting in my room for over a month now.
Why won't I just open it and put it together? I enjoy making things.. what is so unappealing to me about putting together a wooden frame? I honestly think beds are pointless. I have a mattress on the floor, what is wrong with that? Placing a mattress on an elevated piece of wood or metal seems like a complete waste of money and resources.

My friends when entering my room ask me why I haven't just put it together already (honestly it would take me only take about twenty minutes) and I just don't have an answer for them. I just feel that it's a waste of time. They then tell me that it's a waste of space. While they say it's a waste of space and the box sitting there is useless, I inform them that their statement was created from a narrow perspective. I illustrate how the box could be used as a bench by sitting on it, or even a table by placing a bottle of water on it. Appearing genuinely bewildered, I do them a favor and change the topic of conversation.

Am I the only person who thinks bed-frames are a waste? To me my thinking seems practical and without error. I admit I could be wrong, foolish, or perhaps just "lazy", but why a bed-frame?

Any comments will be appreciated. I should stop being lazy and just put that thing together already :P.

Thanks everyone for reading!

PS - I should stop being lazy and just put that thing together already :P. I mean I already have it, so I guess it would be about time.

  1. nope... I sleep in a high bed, because else my room would be too small... I have 2 closets, my desk under my bed and my computer (also) under my bed....
    I need my frame!!!

  2. Well, I do like having my bed elevated so I can put things under the bed that would otherwise take up needed space. (Keyboard, boxes for items under warranty, etc) but if not for that, I wouldn't really care either.

  3. I'm pretty lazy. Had pants from Christmas that were a gift, just tried them on for the first time YESTERDAY. They've been sitting in my room since Christmas Day.

  9. I'm pretty sure they were created to make getting out of bed easier. You turn to the edge and place your feet on the floor; there is little to no effort to get up. However, when the bed is on the ground you have to exert more effort to get up. It's easy now, but when you're an old fart getting out of a bed on the floor gets difficult. That and you can place shit under your bed for extra space.

  12. I'm unbelievably lazy, however, if it was something like that, I would make it for sure. Isn't your bed one of the items you need to fulfill your laziness? :DD

  14. Hmmm. Never thought of the topic til this moment...although I can't think to say that they are a WASTE; just not generally necessary.

To begin. A bed frame, most often, has one of two purposes. The first, and most commonly accepted, is to accommodate for the usage of a box-spring or some accountable support to be added under a mattress. The other, and less interesting reason, is that most bed-frames are also used for adding a certain aesthetic to a given room.

Personally, neither of these actually apply to myself. I have a bed that's inlaid into the floor, so it's a given that I need it framed...however I'm a bigger fan of thinking of it as a "Bed Foundation". :)
